Building Wells
We started distributing clothes and food in 1996, but as we traveled through the remote villages, we noticed the locals were lacking running water. The villagers never had any access to water in close proximity to them so they had no choice but to walk 25mins or more with only buckets and a trolly, so that kind of gave us the drive for what we wanted to do for the poorer people of Gambia. Our Foundation first started making wells for the locals around 1998 which was two blessings in one for them because besides putting up wells in the villages, we were creating jobs for the locals at the same time, as in order to make the wells, we would need people to help dig them, put cement around them and finally engrave the names of the sponsors on the finished well. As the years went by, we started seeing more and more water taps being installed in the villages, which was a good thing. By 2017, we lost contact with some of the well makers and we stopped building the wells and went back to sending food and clothes, which we’re still doing up to this date, as well as our other projects.
