A Story about Baidy
My name is Trevor ( AKA Mr T ), one of the Foundation Members. Baidy is a friend I met in Gambia in 2023, he is severly disabled, he’s a humble man with an infectious personality which pulled on my heartstrings making me want to help him. So on getting back to the UK Baidy would always cross my mind, I decided that when I go back to The Gambia I would pay him another visit and see what I could do to help his situation.
Baidy lost both his hands and suffered severe burns all over he’s body at the age of 12 years old after being electrocuted. He is now in his 50’s and through most of his life he has had no medical or financial help. It is hard to imagine how life has been for him, growing up in Gambia has its own challenges even as an able bodied person, but as a disabled person with no hands it makes life extreemly hard. After the accident he was unable to do even the basic things for himself like feeding, toilet needs, washing or even scratch his nose and zip up his trousers, the simple things we all take for granted.
Life has been a struggle but he remains positive and he loves life, music and football, apparently I’ve been told he’s a good footballer lol. But one thing I know he is a natural musician with a talent for playing the bongo drums even without hands. He plays with precisian rhythm and good timing.
Baidy is a proud man and doesn’t like to beg and depend on others, if he could get the money to purchase some drums he could make his own living entertaining the tourists and it would help to make him feel more independant and restore his self esteem.
Help us bring a little light into Baidy’s life.
We are appealing on Baidy’s behalf to anyone who would like to donate to help or even more amazing donate a set of drums. I believe from what we are told that a pair of drums will cost around £100.
