The Beryl & Winford Manning Foundation Gambia
We Are United in Our Dedication to The Gambia
OUR HISTORY
The story behind the foundation begins back in 1985 when Mrs Beryl Manning with a couple of her cousins went on holiday to The Gambia. They met many people during this holiday, but one family in particular stood out to Beryl, for she could see they were in great need of help. So being the good natured and kind woman she was, she took it upon herself to help them with their basic needs, food, clothing and education.
After a number of years, Beryl lost contact with the family and it was 10 years later in 1995 that she asked members of her family to visit The Gambia to check on the progress of those she had been helping. Within days they made contact with the family in Gambia, who were overjoyed to meet them and welcomed them into their home. The Manning family discovered that the lives of the Gambian family had been much improved by Ms Beryl generosity. With her help, amongst other things, the funding of the children’s education enabled them to attended school, graduate, find employment and all were doing well in their prospective lives.
Following that, members of Beryls family began visiting The Gambia from time to time, and would help people in need that they encountered, if possible.

It was about 10 years later when her sons Keith & Donald and her nephew Clyde decided they would like to do more for the Gambian people by the digging of water wells for the poorer villages.
5yrs on from that in 2010 I Joined the team Trevor (AKA Mr T) we started sending clothes donated to us in the UK out to these villages, and also added the provision of materials and equipment for the main Hospital in Banjul to our workload plus the ongoing project we have with the building & supplying of the school in Jambanjelly. It has been a long and hard road doing this work with so few of us, that’s why we have now decided to appeal to the greater community for help using social media to advertise our tireless and ongoing efforts to improve the lives of the less fortunate in The Smiling Coast of Gambia.
My family and I would like to thank those that have already contributed to our ongoing appeal for the Gambian villages and other projects.
We are in the process of funding two villages collecting clothes food and learning material for the kids such as writing books pens pencils rulers calculators and rubbers etc. We plan to continue the digging of wells, as we know and have experienced that this provides far reaching benefits. Not only the provision of water for drinking, washing and cooking but also for agricultural purposes, enabling the villagers to grow and cultivate their own food supplies, thus eventually promoting self sufficiency and independence. Therefore agricultural equipment such as fencing, wheel barrows, spades, forks, watering cans, seeds etc. would also be required.
This is a family foundation , so what ever you donate to us goes directly to the village or project we are involved with and not into our pockets for administration or promotional leaflets or advertisements as it does with many other foundations. All funds donated to our foundation will go to worthy causes such as funding remote schools and villages to make improvements to their lives that without our aid would be very difficult to achieve.
In a nutshell, the aim of our foundation is to provide villages with assistance and materials that will improve their lives and eventually enable them to become self sufficient and no longer needing or wanting. outside help.
