OUR HISTORY
The Story of The Beryl & Winford Manning Foundation
The origins of The Beryl & Winford Manning Foundation dates back to 1985, when Mrs Beryl Manning, accompanied by two of her cousins, travelled to The Gambia for a holiday. During this visit, she encountered many warm and welcoming people, but one family in particular deeply moved her. Seeing the genuine hardship they were facing, Beryl felt compelled to help.
True to her kind and generous nature, she began supporting the family by providing assistance with basic necessities such as food, clothing, and education. This support continued for several years and had a lasting impact on the family’s wellbeing.
After some time, contact with the family was lost. However, around 1995, Beryl asked members of her family to travel to The Gambia to check on the progress of those she had helped. In 1996, several members of the Manning family made the journey and, within days of arriving, successfully reconnected with the Gambian family.
The reunion was deeply emotional. The family welcomed the Mannings into their home with great joy, expressing heartfelt gratitude for the many years of support they had received from Mrs Beryl Manning. Through conversations with the family, it became clear that Beryl’s generosity had significantly transformed their lives. Her support had enabled the children to be fed, clothed, educated, graduate, gain employment, and go on to lead productive and independent lives.
This experience inspired members of the Manning family to continue visiting The Gambia and to explore further ways of helping other communities in need.

Our Commitment
The Beryl & Winford Manning Foundation is a family-run foundation. Every donation received goes directly to the villages and projects we support, not towards administration costs, salaries, advertising, or promotional materials.
Our mission is simple:
To provide practical assistance and essential resources that enable communities to improve their own lives and eventually become self-sufficient.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who has already contributed to our work and continues to support our mission. With your help, we can continue to strengthen schools, support hospitals, provide clean water, and uplift vulnerable individuals and communities across The Gambia.
